Microsoft, Sify Bridging Digital Gap

Sify has announced a coalition with Microsoft aimed at bridging the digital divide in the country.

Towards this objective, Sify plans to support Microsoft's 'Unlimited Potential Program'. As part of the deal, Sify I-way cyber cafe subscribers will be offered access to licensed Microsoft Office software, and they will be able to use the cyber cafes as virtual offices for their requirements.
They will be trained to use MS Office for the purpose of Microsoft Office Certification, so as to increase their productivity and improve their skills.

The association also encompasses other Microsoft Certification programs, affordable utility computing for the middle class, and content for online education through Sify's I-way chain.

Besides, Sify has plans to boost Microsoft's IQ PC initiative by providing up to 100-hours of free Internet access to buyers.

The Sify-Microsoft partnership is seen as a step towards digitally empowering millions of Indians otherwise left outside of the loop purely for economic reasons.

Sharing his views on the partnership, Raju Vegesna, chairman and chief executive officer of Sify, said he believes Microsoft's 'Unlimited Potential Program' is path-breaking, and that it will help build a technologically advanced India. Vegesna said the association would help Sify further it's objective of capacitating Indians with IT services and the Internet to improve the quality of their lives.

Ravi Venkatesan, chairman of Microsoft India, said the idea is to work together, use the confluence of objectives to offer affordable, easy-to-use services to Indians by leveraging Sify's IP capabilities, market reach, and data center infrastructure across the country.
